United States. Arkema's Kynar Aquatec® PVDF range has been recognised for its durability benefits in cool roof coatings.
To obtain the "Solar Impulse Efficient Solution" label, Arkema's range of aqueous PVDFs underwent a thorough evaluation by a group of independent experts, who analysed it under five criteria covering the three fundamental themes of feasibility, sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
In this way, the solution joins the #1000soluciones challenge, an initiative of the Solar Impulse Foundation that seeks to identify solutions that meet high sustainability standards and present them to decision-makers to accelerate their implementation.
In its opinion, the foundation praised the innovative polymer range for enabling aqueous coatings of cool and restoration roofs that last 300% to 400% longer than traditional cool roof chemistries and achieve a 90% reduction in volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions over their lifetime.
This results in a building that stays cool for significantly longer periods without requiring regular maintenance or reapplication. Arkema also produces aqueous PVDF products for lithium-ion battery binders and separator coatings.
All the certified solutions are part of the #1000soluciones portfolio that will be presented to decision-makers in the business and government field by Bertrand Piccard, president of the Solar Impulse Foundation. The goal of this initiative is to drive the adoption of more ambitious environmental goals and accelerate the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.
Earlier this year, Arkema also secured Solar Impulse label approval for its advanced bio-circular polyamide 11 range, which includes Rilsan® and Pebax® Rnew® polymers.
