Brazil. An evaluation by the PSQ of Real Estate Paints showed that 93 products, from 37 different companies, comply with the ABNT NBR 17134:2023 standard.
The ABNT NBR 17134 technical standard establishes the performance requirements of textures for application in outdoor environments, used as a finish (without the need for additional finishing). This rule was published in September 2023.
With this precept it is possible to differentiate products with recognized quality from those that do not meet the minimum requirements specified in the technical standard. As a result, the market for these products becomes more orderly, ensuring competitive equality and protecting the consumer.
The publication of the standard made compliance with its specifications mandatory, as determined by the Consumer Protection Code. It was also the starting point for the evaluations of this product – which represents around 6% of the total volume of real estate paints – to begin with the Sectoral Program for the Quality of Real Estate Paints (PSQ).
In February 2024, the first PSQ-qualified textures were released, produced by manufacturers who chose to anticipate the process. Now, in the quarterly Sectoral Report (n°83) that has just been published, the textures are in full force: there are 93 qualified products (that is, those that met all the requirements established in the technical standard), from 37 different companies. In this way, anyone who wants to apply textures to facades has a wide range of products of recognized quality that they can trust.
