Volkswagen inaugurates 100% electric paint shop in Puebla

Mexico. With the opening of this ship, Volkswagen takes a key step towards sustainability, eliminating the use of natural gas and marking a milestone in the global automotive industry.

This facility, located at the Puebla plant, sets a new standard in the manufacture of eco-friendly vehicles within the Volkswagen Group.

The project, which required an investment of $763.5 million and more than 350,000 cubic meters of surface leveling, includes a capacity to process up to 90 bodies per hour. This warehouse, which is part of a complex integrated with other production areas, is the result of planning that began in 2022. Its opening reinforces the company's global sustainability strategy, in which innovative technologies and care for the environment are prioritized.

Holger Nestler"The inauguration of our new 100% electric paint shop marks a momentous moment for Volkswagen de Mexico and for our global sustainability strategy. This project reflects not only our commitment to innovation and excellence, but also the incredible talent and passion of our team in the country. Thanks to their effort and dedication, we continue to show the world that here we turn challenges into successes, consolidating ourselves as a reliable and leading plant in the region," said Holger Nestler, president and CEO of Volkswagen de Mexico.

For his part, Christian Vollmer, member of the Executive Board of Volkswagen, stressed that the new warehouse is an example of the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies that seek to reduce the company's carbon footprint. This innovation will reduce energy consumption per vehicle by 22% during the painting process, contributing to the reduction of 29,000 tons of CO2 per year.

The plant, which operates with renewable energy, also optimizes its internal logistics through elevated tunnels that connect the different areas of the complex. In addition, the 2010V paint concept implemented in the new hall optimises material consumption and ensures a high-quality finish, including the option of two-tone colours.

In 2024, the Puebla plant reached a production of 382,312 vehicles, an increase of 9.5% compared to the previous year. With this new warehouse, Volkswagen de Mexico reinforces its position as a world-class automotive production hub, contributing to the growth of the industry in Puebla with sustainable processes and cutting-edge technology.
