International. AkzoNobel has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with Sinopec, the energy and chemicals company, to support the Chinese company's global expansion and jointly promote the transition to more sustainable energy.
This new alliance reinforces the collaboration that both companies have maintained since the early 2000s and will focus on the supply of high-performance coatings products for international construction and energy projects.
The agreement is part of Sinopec's efforts to modernize and transform its operations, focusing on improving its capabilities to supply green energy and advance emissions reductions.
In this way, AkzoNobel will provide a wide range of specialized coatings, including anti-corrosion products for steel structures, high-temperature resistant coatings, chemically resistant solutions for storage tanks, and high-performance flame retardant coatings. These products will be used in critical infrastructure projects, such as refining facilities, natural gas processing plants, and chemical production plants, which require exceptional quality standards.
Simon Parker, Head of AkzoNobel's Marine Coatings and Protectors division, highlighted the importance of this partnership: "We are honored to strengthen our collaboration with Sinopec, reflecting our shared vision to move towards a more sustainable future. Through our expertise in high-performance coatings and our global presence, we have the ability to support Sinopec in its ambitious international projects."
Both companies have already worked together on flagship projects, such as Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company's million-ton ethylene project and the Petronas RAPID project in Malaysia. With this new agreement, the alliance is expected to continue its growth, encompassing a greater number of key projects in the global energy industry.
The agreement was formalized during the opening of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, one of the most important events for international trade in the region. This signing highlights the commitment of both companies to innovation, sustainability and the promotion of green energy, contributing to the construction of a cleaner and more efficient future for the global energy sector.
