International. Global sealant consumption was 3.6 billion pounds in 2011, which was $8.45 billion. Annual growth through 2016 is estimated at 5%, with the Asia-Pacific region contributing 8% per year and North America and Europe growing 2% annually.
South America reported 3% of the global total and is estimated to grow at a rate of 5%. Europe led consumption in 2011 with US$3.42 billion, representing 40% of the total. The Asia-Pacific region is second in value, with a share of 31%, but is the leader in pounds with 40% of the total.
North America had 24% of the dollars in 2011 in this market. This region has matured for the growth of sealants.
The construction sector is the most important end user for the sealant market, accounting for 63% of total volume and dollars in 2011. Another important sector is the automotive sector, which contributed 23%.
