Mexico. The National Association of Paint and Ink Manufacturers (Anafapyt) has opened a relationship with the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Paints and Printing Inks (Asefapi), an organization that shares challenges in terms of paint regulation.
This comes after the Mexican government canceled two regulations: one that regulated labeling and another that established permissible limits of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the manufacture of paints.
According to the general director of Anafapyt, Flor de María González, "this is very important because in Mexico they canceled the draft standards, which affected the work of five years."
"It is a very good opportunity to integrate communications and develop ISO standards with the Spanish Standardization Unit (UNE)," said Gonález.
Gonzalez explained that the business organization he represents will not stop working on regulatory issues, so they seek to collaborate with countries that do have these rules, while waiting for the Mexican government to activate the issue of regulations that talk about paintings.
For his part, the president of the Association, Marcelo E. Herrera, indicated: "Unfortunately at this time there are not many official regulations that pertain to the area of paintings; There are no regulations in painting as to the type of solvents that can be used or the type of raw materials that can be used, although many customers and users of paints do demand based on international regulations, so the local manufacturer has to adapt its developments to be able to meet the requirements of the strictest industries."
To push the regulations in the industry, Anafapyt has approached the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) to work in coordination and resume the regulations.
