Germany. Grupo Altana, a specialty chemicals company, increased its sales and operating profit during the first half of 2012. Compared to the same period in 2011, this year its sales grew 5%.
That is to say that sales went from 840 million euros to 886 million. The company reports that these figures approached the level of the previous year due to adjustments in the exchange rate, as well as acquisition effects.
Volumes, with a slight decline, were offset by higher prices and the effects of the product mix. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) improved 4% to €179 million from €172 million a year earlier.
