International. Carmaker Daimler revealed that it will apply a new technology that will further protect the paint of its Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, SK and SL-Class vehicles. It is a new varnish that is applied as a final and superficial layer in the body and acts as an anti-scratch protection, against sunlight and chemical substances.
Varnish offers better protection against damage such as micro scratches, which can occur in car washes, for example. That means vehicle owners can enjoy finishing their vehicle's material for longer.
This new technology was developed by Basf Coatings under the name of iGloss, the varnish is the top layer of the car's finish and provides shine for the whole body. Nor does it imply any variation in the application process.
Daimler chose this solution, as it combines the advantages of "hard" inorganic materials with soft organic materials, according to the paint supplier. This hybrid configuration translates into resistance to imperfections without detriment to quality.
