The car of the future will be made with new materials that give it advanced properties: lightness, resistance to fire and scratching, anti-icing mechanisms or that it is self-cleaning.
Innovation in the properties of plastic materials applied to the automotive sector aims to obtain greater efficiency, environmental protection, safety and comfort for the driver. The Technological Institute of Plastics (Aimplas), together with companies in the sector, has participated in numerous projects that develop products and technologies in this regard.
As far as coatings are concerned, some characteristics of the car of the future are the following: Rearview mirror with electrical conductivity suitable for electrostatic painting. Ultrahydrophobic coating used as an anti-icing or self-cleaning coating on the outside of vehicles. Nanotechnology to obtain flame retardant plastics without additives that are not respectful with the environment. Scratch-resistant materials for interior plastic parts.
