Color measurement and accuracy, the challenge of reliability in spectrophotometers

Latin America. Accurate color measurement presents a major challenge for the plastics, paints, ceramics, and chemical industries, among others.

In this mission, it is vital to have a spectrophotometer on hand, as this technology allows for accurate measurement and ensures color and brightness fidelity in different materials.

Konica Minolta Sensing Americas provides advanced optical technology that accurately measures color and light elements. For example, the CM-36dG benchtop spectrophotometer has an ISO-compatible brightness sensor and stability control.

This spectrophotometer measures color in reflectance or transmittance, ideal for a wide range of applications. It features a built-in 60° brightness sensor, which is ISO 2813 compliant inside to measure color and true brightness simultaneously.

By measuring and reporting both values together, the quality control workflow can be optimized, operator error can be reduced, and maintenance costs can be saved.

The CM-36dG utilizes the patented and proven UV Numerical Control (NUVC), an unsurpassed technology for UV adjustments when measuring samples containing optical brighteners such as pulp, paper, textiles, or chemicals.

The CM-36dG includes several new features to enhance the user experience. Status LEDs provide clear visual feedback, a camera preview system for sample positioning and reporting, and versatile port alignment that allows the device to be rotated 90° to measure powdered materials in the "top port" style.

It contains a large open-sided transmission chamber that can measure transparent or translucent samples of any size with ease. The lid of the transmission chamber features a lift and swivel lock to prevent accidental opening of the device, this locks when used vertically to measure powdered material in petri dishes.

Accurate measurement of materials such as paper or textiles treated with optical brighteners (OBAs) requires precise control of the UV component. UV's patented numerical control method provides UV control by using proprietary calculations to combine the results of two xenon lamp flashes.

One with full UV energy, the other with UV energy removed by a UV cut-off filter (either 400 nm or 420 nm). This method eliminates the need for time-consuming filter position adjustment processes and allows UV adjustment by whiteness index, tint, gloss or UV profile.

The LED indicator panel shows the current measurement settings at a glance. In addition, the measurement button on the panel allows samples to be measured remotely.
