International. Henkel Adhesive Technologies has strengthened its expertise in functional coatings by co-investing in Kriya Materials (Kriya), the Netherlands. Based on its metal oxide nanotechnology platform, the advanced materials company offers custom multifunctional coatings and master batches in a range of product applications for the film and flexible glass markets.
"Functional coatings are one of our main fields of search to accelerate growth within our Adhesive Technologies business," explained Paolo Bavaj, Head of Corporate Venturing at Henkel Adhesive Technologies.
"Kriya has already demonstrated the capability of its innovative solutions in different applications and markets and offers a versatile platform that complements our existing technologies. Together we aim to leverage technology in Henkel's broad customer base in our global markets, such as electronics and automotive."
Kriya was founded in 2006 and developed antistatic coatings for plasma TVs based on patented technology acquired through a Philips spin-off. Following the decline of the plasma TV market in 2014, the company successfully leveraged its metal oxide nanotechnology platform and coating formulation expertise to develop bespoke coating formulations and master batches for various markets.
These developments focused on products that would have a positive impact on energy efficiency, energy conservation, and the durability of consumer and industrial products.
Kriya's portfolio includes customized products that provide properties such as anti-glare, anti-dirt, anti-static, near-infrared light handling or anti-scratch enhancement. The technology increases the power generation of solar modules and improves light generation in OLED and LED lighting. In addition, Kriya offers a large portfolio of products to improve the durability and user experience of surfaces, such as those of screens.
