Brazil. At Abrafati 2017, Orion Engineered Carbons unveiled its main innovations in carbon blacks for coating applications and presented its new grade: 430 XPB Prowder, a carbon black for water-based coatings.
In addition, Orion introduced its two iconic carbon blacks for coating applications. These specialty grades for high degree of darkness for both solvent-based and water-based coatings are Colour Black FW 255 Powder for OEM and automotive refinishing systems, and Special Black 40 Powder for industrial applications.
"We have carbon black grades that excel in dispersibility, compatibility and flexibility," said Dr. Jennifer Granados, marketing manager for Orion, Coatings & Specialty Applications, Americas Region. "They make it easy to incorporate into coatings and offer a wide range of options in formulations."
XPB 430 Powder offers the highest levels of degrees of darkness and strong bluish tones for durable, high-quality automotive base layers. The XPB 430 Powder is also ideal for other high-jet applications, such as premium industrial coatings and plastics and OEM and automotive refinish applications, and is designed for easy dispersion under high-shear mixtures. It can be dispersed directly in water and develops the final colorimetric properties in a matter of minutes without additional milling or additional moisturizing additives.
The Colour Black FW 255 Powder sets new benchmarks for increased performance, colour performance and compatibility with water- and solvent-based systems. This dual compatibility allows producers to reduce storage costs.
Special Black 40 Powder for medium to high jet coatings provides exceptional dispersibility and stability in industrial applications. It works on all coating formulations – solvent-based, water-based, solids and powder coatings – providing formulators with enormous flexibility.
