Brazil. Designed to create a premium look for automotive interior plastics, two new resins developed by DIC Corporation and delivered by Sun Chemical Advanced Materials at Abrafati 2017 were launched.
The new Watersol AC-7505 resin provides a desirable metallic finish in automotive interior plastic without a transparent coating. 2K chemistry offers the necessary chemical resistance in a single-layer system, reducing complication in coating application while passing the industry's most demanding sun protection tests.
The combination of Watersol AC-7505 with Sun Chemical's Benda-Lutz Splendal vacuum metallized flake pigments can produce luxury finishes for inlays, bezels, handles, trims and other plastic parts for automotive interiors.
Benda-Lutz Splendal offers four unique suspensions of microscopically thin aluminum platelets produced by physical vapor deposition. These vacuum-metallized pigments range from a glossy "white" to intense dark chrome reflections and are available in multiple solvents for almost all coating applications. The Splendal pigment range finds wide application for premium consumer electronics, car interiors and automotive wheels.
The fair also showcased a new second-generation acrylic polyol DIC technology supplied by Sun Chemical, dubbed WRU-429, which provides better self-healing as well as scratch and sea resistance. WRU-429 exhibits exceptional adhesion to ABS and polycarbonate, and provides the interior coatings of the car with the superior strength of DEET and sun protection.
