International. PPG's Sico paint brand selected Cast Iron (6173-83) as its 2018 color of the year. According to Sico's color experts, black paint highlights a perfect blend of modern yet timeless sophistication and offers an often overlooked flexibility in design.
"The Cast Iron is a perfect choice for DIY growers who crave a room with dirt that is wrapped in comfort and convenience, starting with their paint color selection," said Mylène Gévry, senior marketing manager for PPG's Sico brand. "This color is hard to ignore and provides some grandeur or simplicity to a space because of its flexibility."
While black pays attention on its own, Sico's color experts recommend pairing it with a variety of other shades. Coat this deep, rich midnight hue with a variety of softer neutrals, such as "Millennial Pink Vanilla Orchid" (6188-21), a nutmeg hue like Roma Antiqua (6231-63), a brown gray like Impeccable Gray (6212-31), and a warm white like Zen (6222-11) for a calm, minimalist look.
The color was unanimously chosen by PPG's more than 20 global color stylists, who specialize in industries including consumer electronics, architecture, automotive and aerospace. These experts study consumer ideas, building material trends, decorating trends, and more to select a color forecast that resonates and reflects the attitudes of today's consumers.
