International. AkzoNobel has regained the top spot in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The latest list, published on September 8, places the company in first place in the chemical industry group, a place it has occupied for the fifth time in six years.
"It is a great achievement to lead this important classification again. We have made a great effort to improve in those areas that we needed to address and getting this recognition again demonstrates the impact we can have by working with the heart in our business strategy," said Thierry Vanlancker, CEO of AkzoNobel.
The company has been in the top ten for twelve consecutive years. "The purpose and real value of the DJSI lies in its effectiveness as a reference tool to work day by day in the improvement of our business. We are very satisfied and at the same time we are very aware that although we are leading the ranking again, we must continue working to improve. As leaders in sustainability, we play an important role in transforming the industries in which we operate. Therefore, we must continue to work and improve to create a sustainable future," adds Vanlancker.
Among the company's progress, AkzoNobel committed to eliminate carbon emissions and use 100% renewable energy by 2050, a new goal that helped the company implement measures to join the UN Sustainable Development Goals and reflected the firm commitment to the environment.
Considered the most respected independent sustainability ranking system, the DJSI World Index compares the sustainability mission of leading companies in environmental, social and economic recovery, including future-oriented indicators. In addition, the DJSI evaluates various criteria including supply chain management, operational eco-efficiency, product management, human capital development, integrity and safety of people, processes and products.
