BASF's coatings division has won the Federal Ecodesign Award. The jury was convinced by the innovative approach of the "Cool Coatings" car coating technology and its sophisticated design, which allows a wide range of colors.
BASF Cool Coatings reflect infrared light and, in doing so, reduce the temperature on the surface and inside of the car. This passive temperature management reduces the heating of the car's surface up to 20°C, which leads to a 4°C reduction inside the vehicle.
Due to savings in air conditioning, fuel consumption can be reduced or the range of electric cars can be expanded.
"In addition to providing an attractive appearance and protecting the vehicle, Cool Coatings also offer additional functional properties. Technology is an important step towards modern mobility. We are especially pleased to receive the award as it honors exactly this aspect," said Mark Gutjahr, Head of Automotive Color Design emea.
