Due to the fire of 17 October, which took place in BASF's northern port in Ludwigshafen, Germany, the company announced that it has to declare force majeure in deliveries of dispersions, dispersion powders and hotmelts based on acrylic monomers from BASF's headquarters in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Tarragona and Southern Catalonia, Spain, until further notice.
While the plants for the aforementioned products are not affected by the incident, the impacts on logistics as well as raw materials are occurring. Due to the fire, the supply of raw material from the vapocrakers was stopped and other Verbund plants were stopped or production was reduced. Many plants, such as one of the vapocrakers, have resumed operations in the meantime.
The company reported that as of October 31 product inventories were virtually exhausted and that production was restricted due to the still limited access to key raw materials. Under the current circumstances, a delivery via barge, rail or tanker is also limited.
Currently, BASF cannot specify how long this situation will last. Meanwhile, the company is implementing measures to limit the consequences for its customers and will continuously report on development and details on supply capacity with the affected products.
