Covestro reported that it has set ambitious sustainability goals. The company expressed its intention to reduce its specific CO2 emissions per tonne of product by 50% based on a 2005 baseline.
Covestro has long been developing solutions for greater energy efficiency. An example is lightweight automotive materials that help reduce fuel consumption. Another focal point is polyurethane insulating materials for thermal insulation of buildings and the cold chain. All these events contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. This maxim also applies to Covestro itself.
The company is confident of achieving its new climate goals by the deadline. "We have created our first target of a reduction in CO2 emissions by 20% in 2005 and we went through this six-year period. Then we set a goal of 30% and achieved it within three years. The next target was 40%, and although we are still in the home stretch, we are already planning for a new registration," said Richard Northcote, head of the sustainability office.
