Cuba. The Mexican company Devox Caribe S.A., which specializes in the manufacture of high-performance paints and coatings, confirmed the installation of a factory for the manufacture of this type of products in the Mariel area.
The firm, which seeks to satisfy the Cuban market and in turn export to other Caribbean countries, joins a first group of eight companies that are currently in the Mariel Special Development Zone (Zedm), which is said to become the main economic pole of Cuba.
The Director of Coordination and Procedures of the ZEDM Office, Wendy Miranda, reported in the framework of the XXXIII International Fair of Havana, which takes place from November 2 to 7, that other files are being processed in sectors such as chemistry, logistics and construction.
"This group of eight companies is just the beginning," said Miranda, who also stressed that Cuba is open to foreign investment.
Reports assure that if it turns out as planned, the Zedm will boost the island's economy as part of the process of updating the national economic model, and will also be able to position itself as a strategic commercial point in the Caribbean.
