United States. Cardolite Corporation introduces its LITE 3025 to the market with which it seeks to expand its portfolio of innovative epoxy curing agents based on the company's owned phenalcamina technology.
First introduced more than five years ago with the LITE 3000 and LITE 3100 products, the phenalcamina technology is designed to combine in a single product the benefits of cashew shell liquid (CNSL) and polyamide curing chemicals. Since then, the product line has steadily expanded to meet the performance, workability, and regulatory demands of the market.
Cashew peel liquid-based curing agents that have used phenalcamine chemistry have enjoyed widespread market adoption of heavy-duty coatings mainly due to their excellent corrosion protection and ability to heal quickly, even at low temperatures.
Wider adoption, however, has been limited due to color drawbacks, dust jackets, and sometimes flexibility. Phenalcamine chemistry is Cardolite's patented technology to chemically modify a polyamide with cashew to gain benefits, especially in curing speed and water resistance.
Unlike simple mixtures of phenalcamines and polyamides, studies of phenalcamines show that systems retain all the desired properties of both a polyamide and a phenalcamine while eliminating typical drawbacks.
