Colombia. Aeronautical paint applicators from different companies in the industry took part in an academic day to commemorate their day organized by Fly Logistic, Sherwin Williams, Cee-Bee and Vantage.
The event, which was attended by companies such as Avianca, Helistar and Satena, as well as institutions such as the Colombian Air Force, the National Police and the Air Maintenance Command, brought together different conferences on first supplies, AMS-3095A commercial paint, MIL-PRF-85285F military paint and special paints (high temperature, non-slip and interior).
One of the invited experts was Juan Manuel Álvarez, ICAO instructor on the subject of Aeronautical Painting and Corrosion Control, and regular contributor to ZONA DE PINTURAS.
The conference was aimed at the importance, commitment and responsibility of the aeronautical paint applicator in which he highlighted the "protection of aircraft as an objective, and task of great importance in corrosion control".
On the other hand, Álvarez reported on the certification courses endorsed by ICAO: Paintair (certification for aeronautical paint applicators) and Paintin (certification for aeronautical paint and coating inspectors).
This led Álvarez to highlight the importance of these courses for ICAO, supported by Annex Eight which refers to the need for compliance with standards that ensure the airworthiness of aircraft.
On the other hand, a competition was held for applicators from the different organizations: they had to prepare a specimen complying with technical specifications such as dry film thickness. The winner was the applicator from the company Helistar.
Finally, a debate was held between Juan Manuel and Javier Polania, head of the Painting workshop of Avianca's MRO, and José Miguel Atehortua, from the engineering section of the Colombian Air Force.
