United States. PPG Industries has signed a licensing agreement with Chinese company Henan Billions Chemicals, in which PPG will license certain chloride-based technologies for implementation at the Asian company's titanium dioxide refining facilities. Additionally, PPG sealed with this same company a long-term purchase agreement for titanium dioxide (TiO2).
PPG seeks to use the chloride-based TiO2 manufactured by Billions for various end-use applications, including paints and other coatings. TiO2 would also be available for sale to third parties.
"This agreement is further proof of PPG's commitment to using our expertise to expand and secure the additional global supply of titanium dioxide," said Charles F. Kahle II, PPG Vice President.
Previously, PPG manufactured titanium dioxide using the chloride process at its chemical facilities, and sold TiO2 pigments for coatings and other end applications.
