International. Manufacturers and developers of architectural coatings will be the first users of the American Society for Testing and Materials' (ASTM) new international standard , ASTM D 7786, the test method for determining enamel retention.
This standard was developed by the D01.42 subcommittee on architectural coatings, which is part of the ASTM D01 International Committee on related paints and coatings, materials and applications.
Keith Alderfer, associate scientist at the Dow Chemical, and member of D01.42, commented that "The characteristic of enamel retention in a primary can have a significant impact on the appearance of a paint-finished system , especially if that system is intended to have a glossy or self-glossing finish."
