Germany. A fire broke out on March 31 at a cyclododectriene (CDT) plant located in the Marl Chemical Park, near Dortmund, and belonging to the multinational company Evonik.
The firm published in an official statement that during the events two members of its workforce died, and that it is currently supporting the authorities with all the necessary information to find the causes that originated the fire; at the same time they are conducting their own analysis of the facts.
CDT is used to make laurolactama which, in turn, is employed as a monomer in polyamide 12 (PA12), a key component in automobile production, in the photovoltaic industry and in coastal pipes. Evonik further highlighted that the incident affected the production of the Vestamid®, Vestamelt®, Vestosint® and Vestenamer product line®.
INPRA LATINA regrets what happened at the plant, as well as the deaths of the company's workers.
