United States. PPG Industries has undertaken a strategic initiative with multiple global suppliers to secure and improve the supply of titanium dioxide, as well as to add it to the global supply of raw materials.
This was confirmed by PPG's Chief Technology Officer, Charles F. Kahle II: "Rising and volatile titanium dioxide prices have been an important issue for PPG. We possess properties and intellectual expertise in the production and finishing of titanium dioxide pigment, and we intend to leverage this and collaborate with potential partners to develop innovative supply solutions."
According to Kahle, PPG has previously manufactured titanium chloride dioxide at its West Virginia chemical plant. He also said PPG anticipates initiative which may include technical collaboration, licensing, technical assistance opportunities or other strategic business initiatives.
Titanium dioxide is a raw material widely used in the paint and coating industry as a pigment, thanks to its coating characteristics, durability and whiteness.
