Mexico. As a result of two years of economic crisis, the automotive refinish segment in Mexico grew to US$200 million, thanks to the interest of people to renew the image of their vehicles, given the impossibility of acquiring a new one.
This was confirmed to the local newspaper Milenio by the director of the Repainting Division of PPG Industries, Miguel Martínez, who pointed out that the year with the highest growth for the sector was 2009, but that the trend has continued until today.
So far this year, sales of coatings for repainting have grown by 15%, a phenomenon that has led to the creation of new courses for applicators to be certified and use the products correctly.
Martinez said that the growth prospects are maintained, thanks to the massive import of used cars from the United States that are marketed in the border states of the Mexican Republic.
