England. Huntsman Corp's pigment division won the EDF Low Carbon Award, one of 12 awards made this year by the Chemical Industries Association (CIA).
The award was given to him for his work in measuring and reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint that he runs at the titanium dioxide (TiO2) manufacturing plant located in the north-east of Greatham, England.
In the last decade, this plant has reduced carbon intensity by 16% and its energy consumption by around 30%. This was achieved through a series of projects across the business, including a US$4.82 million investment to finance a steam recycling project from a waste heat boiler, which resulted in an annual CO2 reduction of 16000t and a specific energy reduction of 2 GJ/t.
