China. The new plant located in Zhangjiagang Yangtze International Chemical Industrial Park, Jiangsu Province, will have an initial production capacity of 27,000 metric tons per year and will supply PPG coating plants and other customers in the region with advanced resins for electrodeposition finishes used in automotive manufacturing and cataphoresis processes.
In the building, ecological materials low in VOC and low emissivity glass coatings were incorporated. Additionally, since the company began construction, it tried to conserve water, energy and raw materials that would make the facility a model of sustainability.
For Viktor R. Sekmakas, senior vice president of Industrial Coatings at PPG, "this plant will be our regional offering to provide consistent quality raw materials, help streamline operations in Asia/Pacific and fulfill our commitment to provide customers with high quality products and reliable services."
Likewise, the company's president and CEO, Charles E. Bunch, argued that "the building will strengthen our position in the paints and coatings industry, intensify the resin production we have developed in the United States, Europe, Brazil, Australia, South Korea and Mexico and honor our commitment to sustainable operation thanks to the incorporation of eco-friendly systems."
