United States. Hybrivet Systems Inc., the supplier of reading implements for the detection of lead, toxins and other contaminants, has become part of 3M.
LeadCheck sponges, a flagship product of Hybrivet Sysyems are used for the recognition of contaminants in paints, complying with the new safety regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in which the appearance of lead in these formulations is prohibited.
This addition represents for 3M an opening in the market of lead testing in paints for old homes and commercial buildings and, according to Jack Truong, vice president and general manager of Construction and Home Improvement Markets Division of 3M, "its products complement the paint preparation businesses and expand the product offering in the paint industry."
Additionally, Hybrivet Systems' LeadCheck products were the first to be endorsed by the EPA under the Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, which went into effect in 2010.
