Corrosion was to blame

United States. Mold, fractures and corrosion were to blame for the breakage of some pipes in Los Angeles, California.

The preliminary results of an investigation conducted by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Energy (LADWP), because of the streak of pipe breaks in the city, showed that a large corrode in the joints of the pipes, together with the pressure of the water caused the havoc.

The report reveals that when examining the tubes, they were moldy and had microfractures, among other problems. Such pipes were installed 70 or 90 years ago and it is believed that the construction practices used at that time caused some type of corrosion in the pipes.
