United States. Celanese Corporation, a specialist in emulsion polymers, announced an agreement to acquire some assets of the Ashland company, which includes two product lines: Vinac and Flexbond, which will reinforce its strategy in that business area.
The transaction is expected to close in early 2012. Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, it is known that the profits in 2010 for these two product lines were approximately US$45 million.
The Flexbond line is used to make architectural paintings for exteriors and interiors. They have characteristics such as stain and wear resistance in interior paints and weather resistance in exterior formulas. The Vinac line is used to create a variety of adhesives for use in packaging, for wood and paperworking and conversion applications.
"This acquisition will accelerate growth in key segments such as adhesives, textiles, coatings and paper," said Phillip McDivitt, Celanese's Emulsion Polymers line manager.
