Mexico. "Applied physics in the transformation towards a circular economy" is the motto that accompanies the Destination Innovation 2023 meeting, an event organized by the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) that seeks to connect academia, industry and government.
Among its speakers is the engineer Joshua Mauricio Ocampo Salas, from Covestro, who will be in charge of the conference entitled "Bio-polymers, alternative raw materials for the coatings and adhesives industry".
Among the topics included in the program is the analysis of Carbon-14, a base isotope for the quantification of the percentage of bio-based material in a product, under the ASTM D-6866 standard.
"In line with the trends we have seen in the market, I think it could be interesting for some manufacturers, suppliers and why not regulatory entities or associations. In the future, this determination could become a possible norm/standard for this coatings sector and others," says Joshua in conversation with Zona de Pinturas.
According to the organizers of this face-to-face event, the Institute of Physics in collaboration with the Center for Applied Physics and Advanced Technology of the UNAM, the Circular Economy aims to redefine the concept of economic growth, focusing on development that includes environmental and social considerations, in addition to purely economic aspects, encouraging innovation.
"In addition, the transition to a circular economy implies the promotion of collaborative projects between academia and industry as a fundamental alternative to carry out this transformation," say the promoters of this meeting, which also seeks to present the efforts and results of UNAM's research institutes.
