Dürr develops paint supply system for industrial applications

Mexico. The new EcoSupply P Core is a modular paint delivery system based on pigging technology.

This method of paint delivery has already proven to bring significant benefits in the automotive paint sector, but this time around, Dürr has gone further and improved it for use in other industries for the first time.

EcoSupply P Core can now be adapted wherever different paint colors are applied in small quantities, such as in the construction, woodworking, or automotive industries.

This system efficiently recovers unused paint, minimizing rinsing agent consumption and speeding up color changes. Dürr will demonstrate how the system works during the PaintExpo exhibition, to be held April 9-12 in Karlsruhe, Germany.

The desire for a full color palette extends beyond the automotive industry. Customers use their color preferences as unique identifiers in other industries, while companies use distinctive colors as a sales differentiator for themselves and their products. Manufacturers in the construction and plastics industries, for example, need to have a variety of shades to meet the needs of their customers.

However, every color change in the supply line results in paint waste and rinsing agent during the painting process. This can involve disproportionately high costs, especially with very small amounts.

This is because today's paint supply systems clean hoses using solvent and compressed air to remove all paint and residue left behind after rinsing, before preparation for the next color application can begin. This process is laborious and time-consuming, and longer, thicker hoses lead to higher paint losses.

Pigging technology reduces paint consumption

For pigging technology, Dürr uses a fitting adapted to the inner diameter of the hoses, called a "pig", to make the process more efficient and reduce the consumption of paint and rinsing agent. The paint, which flows through the pigging hose, pushes the pig from the source module to the destination module.

This process removes any washing agent residue on the hose. Distribution stations give the option to integrate up to four into a pigging line, connect application technology. After paint application, compressed air drives the pig back to the source module.

The paint left in the hose is transported back to the paint container. The washing agent then flows through the pigging hose to the target module. After cleaning and the process is repeated.

Faster color changes and simplified maintenance

The EcoSupply P Core system comes in both closed-loop and circulation versions, and is suitable for applying water-based and solvent-based paints. In both cases, color changes are done faster and with less effort. In addition, the modular design simplifies maintenance, allowing flexible configuration of individual components so that they can be adapted to user requirements and integrated into existing systems.

Therefore, the EcoSupply P Core can also be coupled to other Dürr systems, such as the EcoSupply2 Core paint supply station.

A starter pack with everything you need

The Dürr starter package has all the important components, including a source and destination module, a distribution station to connect to the application technology, hoses (which come in lengths of up to 100 meters) and the pig. The initial package includes sensors for monitoring the position of the pig, tools for maintenance and commissioning, and EcoDocu technical documentation in digital format, supplemented by system examples.

Twenty-five years of experience in pigging technology

The EcoSupply P Core system provides the manufacturing industry with a cost-effective, easy-to-use paint delivery solution for small quantities and low-pressure applications. The new development is the culmination of Dürr's 25 years of experience with pigging technology presented at EcoSupply P. This globally recognized paint delivery system with pigging technology has proven to be effective in automotive painting.

Visitors to the PaintExpo exhibition will be able to learn about EcoSupply P Core at the Dürr booth, 3320 Hall 3. EcoSupply P Core sales are expected to launch at the beginning of the summer.
