International. Between September 7 and 9, Coatings Trends & Technologies (CTT) is held, the main coatings conference in the Midwest of the United States, organized by PCI.
The meeting, held at The Westin Lombard in Chicago (United States), brings together coating chemists, formulators, R&D personnel and suppliers of raw materials and equipment to discuss innovations in coating technology.
The keynote presentation will be given by Eric R. Byer of the National Association of Chemical Distributors. His lecture "Chemicals Can't Wait: The Supply Chain Crisis and What We Can Do to Help End It" will serve as the opening of the event.
"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic there has been enormous pressure on the chemical supply chain. Recently, the U.S. supply chain crisis has reached new levels of dysfunction and these ongoing disruptions are having a severe impact on product availability, business outcomes, and consumer wallets."
It notes that chemical distributors are responsible for the processing, formulation, mixing, repackaging, storage, transportation and marketing of chemicals to more than 750,000 customers in almost all industries.
"They play a vital role in ensuring that a vibrant paint and coatings industry continues to function by providing critical products such as coatings for life-saving equipment, such as fans and vital signs monitors, cleaning products and anti-mold/fungal treatments, the inner coating of steel and aluminum foods and beverage cans that ensure food safety, and many others," he says below.
"To continue to serve their customers in the paints and coatings industry and elsewhere, distributors must be able to reserve cargo and receive it in a timely manner at fair prices. The president and CEO of the National Association of Chemical Distributors, Eric R. Byer, will explore the current supply chain scenario and what we need to alleviate the current crisis and strengthen our system to protect against future crises," the event announcement concludes.
Within the Pigments and Dyes section, one of the topics to be addressed will be the next generation of architectural dyes, by Jerry Powers, of Vibrantz Technologies.
For his part, in the area of Bio-Based Technology, Marc Chan, from Clariant, from the conference entitled "Interrupting climate change" will talk about how 100% bio-based ethoxylated derivatives will affect sustainability objectives, as well as imminent regulatory requirements.
In terms of industrial coatings, Michelle Bauer of ICL will discuss advances in sustainable water-based coatings with heavy metal-free corrosion inhibitors.
In front of Architectural coatings, CHT's Cody Lindemulder will exhibit on sustainable rheological additives with superior splash resistance for water-based architectural coatings.
On the last day, Synthomer's Latoska Price, within the special purpose coatings section, will focus on the future of intumescent coatings.
Finally, in terms of water-based technology, Otto Soidinsalo de Borregaard will discuss the effect of microfibrillated cellulose on the flaccidity and sludge cracking of high-thickness water-based coatings.
