International. This is the first time that BASF's water-based barrier coatings will be used in industrial packaging in China.
With BASF's Joncryl High-Performance Barrier (HPB) water-based acrylic dispersion as the barrier material, the new packaging material is marketed for Nippon Paint's dry mortar construction products.
"Sustainability and innovation have always been our core strategies. At BASF, we are committed to providing sustainable solutions to our customers to help them reduce their carbon footprint, use resources efficiently and help the industry meet its sustainability commitments," said Carol Jiang, business manager and managing director of Resins for Printing and Packaging at BASF in Asia Pacific.
"This cooperation with Nippon Paint is another innovation in the industrial packaging segment, marking our joint effort to lead the development of the industry, promote a circular economy and create a better life," Jiang added.
Kevin By, President of Nippon Paint China's Procurement Headquarters, commented: "Sustainability is an important strategy that Nippon Paint has adhered to for years. The cooperation with BASF is a step forward on the path of green development."
"Nippon Paint will continue to be an eco-friendly 'activist', connecting upstream and downstream partners across the industry chain to build green ecology through green product packaging upgrading and lead the new trend from sustainable packaging towards green development as a core competency," added By.
The company highlights the excellent steam and water resistance properties of Joncryl HPB, from which it can replace the plastics used in traditional packaging and significantly improve the recyclability of paper-based packaging, achieving an innovative application of "Paper Replaced Plastics" in industrial packaging.
Its use in the products of the Nippon Paint series of dry mix mortars is expected to save thousands of tons of plastics and reuse nearly 10,000 tons of paper bags each year.
