Colombia. Pintuco announced that it has signed an agreement with Ecodek, a company specialized in the development of products for sustainable construction and care for the environment, in order to manufacture a paint made with the resin product of recycled expanded polystyrene (Icopor) and that is collected from more than 150 construction companies in Antioquia.
"In Pintuco we are sustainability actors , that is why we are committed to this project with which we hope to support the construction industry to make it increasingly friendly to the environment. In our company we have the experience in the manufacture and commercialization of quality paints, that is why we want to work hand in hand with Ecodek, improving the resin that is already obtained from recycled expanded polystyrene and delivering to the market paints that have as raw material this element that was considered waste "said Juan Carlos Moreno, President of Pintuco.
Sinesco, an environmental solutions company, collects expanded polystyrene (icopor), an element that takes between 150 and 500 years to decompose, and delivers this material to its subsidiary Ecodek, a company that produces the resin that now, with the support of Pintuco, will seek to improve to make sustainable quality coatings for the market.
"We bet on the circular economy, which is generated from industrial waste that we process and transform to create new products, thus generating value, safety and economy to the construction industry. We are very pleased to work hand in hand with Pintuco to continue contributing to the sustainability of the sector," said Andrés David Martínez Tangarife, General Manager of Ecodek.
For the development of the ecological resin, Ecodek will initially take advantage of 500 cubic meters per month of expanded polystyrene (icopor) recovered that Sinesco collects from different constructions that are carried out in the department of Antioquia. This is equivalent to recovering 50 dump trucks full of this product per month. The aspiration is to move quickly to 500 cubic meters per week also taking advantage of the surplus of this material from the manufacturing industry, also benefiting this sector of the economy.
With this alliance, Pintuco and Ecodek hope to contribute to the sustainability of the construction sector, in addition to complying with standard 472 of 2017 in which the Ministry of the Environment requests that the waste generated in construction works be used and reused in order to reincorporate it into the economic cycle, line in which Pintuco will look for new ways of working with Sinesco.
It is important to note that landfills and dumps do not want to receive this product because of the large volumes it occupies. "The same industry is asking for this development that is totally innovative and in which we would be pioneers together with Pintuco," says Martínez.
