Mexico. Nouryon (formerly AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals) announces that it has been able to double its installed capacity for the production of emulsion-based organic peroxides by supplementing, at its plant facilities located in Los Reyes, State of Mexico, to meet the growing customer demand in the North American polyvinyl chloride (PVC) market.
The company introduced emulsion-based peroxides to North America in 2018, which are safer alternatives to solvent-based peroxides for the manufacture of PVC — a plastic used in a wide variety of products including pipes, doors, windows and coatings for industry and the home — while improving product quality.
"We are pleased that customers are attracted by the benefits of emulsions for PVC production," said Johan Landfors, Managing Director of Polymer Chemistry at Nouryon, adding that "we have expanded production capacity to more efficiently and quickly meet demand, and we are ready to expand capacity to grow with our customers in the future."
Emulsion-based peroxides also play a key role in Nouryon's patented Continuous Initiator Dosing (CiD) technology, which allows PVC producers to increase production by up to 40% with minimal capital expenditure.
The expansion of the plant in the Mexican entity is the latest in a series of growth investments by Nouryon to better serve customers in the polymer market. Another expansion project is expected to be completed in Mexico this year, in addition to additional capacity coming online in Brazil, China and India.
