International. AkzoNobel has just launched a new powder coating that paves the way for users to add a coarse texture to surfaces.
Initially launched in Europe, Interpon Coarse Texture Low-E is especially good at covering small defects in metals, while offering greater energy and production efficiency compared to similar products of this type. It is especially aimed at industrial producers of shelves, electrical cabinets, gymnastics equipment and office furniture.
"We are always looking to innovate and take pride in delivering innovations to our customers," explains Mark Reekie, Global Segment Manager, General Industry, for AkzoNobel's powder coatings business. The key to this new range of coarse textures is the low-emissivity label, known as low baking in the industry, which means it can be cured from 150-170°C, without losing the quality or properties of the coating. So that customers can reduce their energy consumption and increase productivity."
He adds that the polyester-based product is ideal for any indoor or outdoor application that requires a coarse texture finish. In addition to providing a consistent effect in any color, it also offers excellent resistance to weathering and light.
"Usually, the metal needs to be treated and smoothed before adding a glossy coating, but even then, you will see the slightest imperfection on the surface," Reekie continues. "Coarse textured powder coatings give a dimpled finish. They are popular because, in addition to looking good, they can 'hide' any imperfections and save the time and money needed to prepare and protect the metal."
