International. I-Tech AB has developed a new drop-in, dust-free soluble packaging system to improve the way the active antifouling agent Selektope (product) is added to marine coatings during the manufacturing process.
The expanded polystyrene (EPS) container, which can be added to the paint without opening, dissolves completely almost instantaneously without leaving traces in the coating system. Therefore, this innovative packaging allows 100% dust-free loading of the Selektope powder material into a batch of liquid paint, eliminating dust formation completely. It also allows the paint manufacturer to make optimal use of the available Selektope and improves safety in the paint processing plant.
Each EPS container is supplied inside a Jar with CurTec HDPE screw cap with locking mechanism that makes it durable with improved impact resistance for transport. The complete EPS container system can contain 300-800g of medetomidine (the chemical name for Selektope) as a dry powder inside a very low weight EPS container (18 g).
The formal launch of the EPS container follows extensive testing with the revolutionary packaging that has been qualified for use during the manufacturing process without compromising paint performance.
Selektope is the non-metallic organic compound whose effectiveness in preventing barnacle scale has allowed traditional marine coating suppliers to develop products that offer superior protection against hard scale, lower water resistance, lower fuel consumption and lower maintenance costs. Characterized by its high efficacy at extremely low concentrations (0.1% w / w) with ultra-low leaching, the biocide repels the settlement of barnacles on the hulls of ships by temporarily stimulating the swimming behavior of barnacle larvae.
