International. AkzoNobel chose "Spiced Honey" as its color of the year for 2019. The tone was selected after expert research on global trends, insights and consumer behaviour.
Capturing this year's theme, "Let the light in", the warm amber hue is marketed under well-known decorative paint brands such as Dulux, Coral, Levis and Flexa.
It is a versatile and contemporary choice, complementing a wide variety of lifestyles and interior design preferences. It also expresses the new sense of optimism felt throughout the global trend research that was conducted.
"The discovery of Spiced Honey is another milestone in empowering consumers around the world to choose paint colors with absolute confidence," said Heleen van Gent, creative director of AkzoNobel's Global Aesthetic Center. "It's a color that can be soothing or nourishing, stimulating and energizing, depending on the light and colors around it."
Trend research is a vital part of identifying Color of the Year and plays an important role in helping AkzoNobel meet the needs of its customers around the world.
AkzoNobel indicated that while the Color of the Year is of great importance to the decorative paint market, the information being collected is also highly relevant to the company's coatings portfolio. For example, the Specialty Coatings business translates annual trend research for customers in the consumer electronics and automotive markets. Meanwhile, Wood Coatings color stylists use the information to offer fashionable color selections for developers and product designers in major markets, such as furniture, cabinets, flooring, and construction products.
The choice of Spiced Honey has also inspired four harmonious color palettes. They are designed to stimulate consumers and make it easier for them to experience color of the year through the use of various tools, such as wet fitting rooms and visualizer décor app.
