United States. Braskem has announced its expanded focus on the research, development and commercialization of chemicals and materials from renewable raw materials. Braskem started a new operation in Boston focused on leveraging innovative developments in biotechnology and advanced materials.
Activities will include research and development in biotechnology and materials, commercial and market development, as well as technology exploration for key strategic partnerships.
Gustavo Sergi, Commercial Director of Braskem Renewable Chemicals, stated: "Renewable chemistry will lead the next wave of chemical and polymer development. Our announcement reinforces Braskem's position at the forefront of this movement. As we move forward, by developing and leading the next wave of renewable chemicals and polymers, we are providing our customers with new and innovative options."
"The Boston operation will complement the metabolic engineering capabilities we have at our Renewable Chemistry Research Center in Campinas (Brazil), as well as our materials science competencies present at our R&D centers in Triunfo (Brazil) and Pittsburgh (USA)."
