International. Eastman announced that he received the 2018 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for his continued leadership in energy management across the company and its partner communities.
This is Eastman's seventh Energy Star Partner of the Year award and fifth Continuous Excellence recognition. Eastman's accomplishments will be recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2018.
"I am incredibly proud of the Eastman team and their continued focus on sustainability as the company's portfolio evolves," said Mark J. Costa, Eastman's president and CEO. "Being a seven-time winner of the Energy Star Partner of the Year award is a reflection of the conscious decisions and hard work of many people around the world every day."
"The world faces enormous complexity and great challenges. We recognize that today's performance is not enough for future demands and current resources will not be sufficient for us in the future if we do not do something different now," said David A. Golden, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal And Sustainability Officer, and Corporate Secretary. "Being recognized once again as Partner of the Year reaffirms Eastman's commitment to creating significantly more value than the resources we use."
The 2018 Partner of the Year Continuous Excellence Award is given to companies and organizations that demonstrate continued leadership in energy efficiency and commitment to the Energy Star program. The winners come from both small businesses, family businesses and Fortune 500 companies, which feature energy-efficient products, services, homes or buildings in the commercial, industrial and public sectors.
Major accomplishments that led to Eastman's recognition this year include:
- Have managed energy for an intensity improvement of 1% compared to 2016 and a reduction of 10.8% since 2008.
- To have budgeted more than $10 million and to have initiated more than 125 energy saving projects focused on the optimization of electrical and steam systems, the modification of processes, improved equipment and improved lighting.
- Have solved the challenge of identifying energy projects and promoting them for financing, by producing an easily accessible and online energy project savings calculator, so that it automatically captures the project in an energy project database for financing consideration.
- Have encouraged employee participation in energy initiatives, participating in improvement initiatives such as Energy Star's "Light the Moment" campaign and the creation of an animated video on the selection of light bulbs for "Energy Awareness Month".
- To have informed employees, schools and the general public about energy saving, environmental protection and Energy Star through an innovative campaign: "Energy efficiency. It's natural."
