International. Heart Wood has been presented by AkzoNobel as the highly anticipated Color of the Year for 2018, following ongoing expert research into consumer trends, perceptions and behaviors.
Identified as a subtle, warm shade of adult pink, Heart Wood draws on the tactile qualities of natural wood and leather, conveying comfort and ease in response to consumers who want to nest more and create a "welcome home."
The color team at akzoNobel's Global Aesthetic Center conducted extensive research along with a group of 11 international experts. It revealed a strong general trend of consumers wanting to transform their homes into spaces of withdrawal from the outside world.
"As life gets faster, now is the time to pause," said Heleen Van Gent, creative director of the company's Global Center for Aesthetics. "Our home needs to be a place where we can reduce noise, where we can nurture our values and recharge. Color can play an important role in balancing outward clamor and inner calm."
