International. In a study conducted by researchers at Tianjin University, the synergistic effect of basalt plates grafted with polyaniline on the corrosion resistance of epoxy coatings was investigated.
Polyaniline-basalt graft plates (PANI-g-BP) were prepared based on basalt plates modified with γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane by the polymerization procedure by chemical oxidation in situ. Three samples of PANI-g-BP were prepared by varying the ratio of aniline to BP (1:2, 1:4, 1:6). Results from FTIR, SEM and TGA confirmed that PANI was successfully grafted onto the surface of the basalt plates.
Different coatings were prepared by adding the synthesized PANI-g-BP or PANI, and then coated on the mild steel. The water absorption property, adhesion force and passive properties of coatings were investigated. In addition, the protective performance of the coatings was tested by EIS in a 12% NaCl solution at 95ºC.
The results indicated that coatings with 10% PANI-g-BP (1: 4) had the best protective behavior and their impedance at 0.01 Hz was greater than 1010 after 80 days of immersion.
