International. Evonik launched a new plant in Shanghai for the production of a wide range of organically modified specialty silicones. The products are used, for example, in polyurethane applications, paints and coatings, as well as in a variety of industrial applications.
Christian Kullmann, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Evonik, formally inaugurated the plant on September 5, in the presence of some 300 guests from the worlds of politics and business.
On this occasion he said: "The plant is another important cornerstone in Evonik's growth strategy. We focus on businesses with a clear focus on specialty chemicals and powerful innovations to significantly increase the value of the company."
The specialty chemicals group invested a high double-digit sum of one million euros in the construction of the new production facilities. Construction took only a year. In 1.3 million hours of work, employees numbering more than 700 in peak periods installed a large number of devices. They placed about 23 kilometers of pipes and 430 kilometers of wiring harnesses in an area of 30,000 square meters—on schedule, within budget, and without a single recordable workplace accident.
