United States. PPG coatings participated in the protection and enhancement of the façade of VIA 57 West, one of New York's newest and most striking architectural landmarks.
Designed by renowned architect Bjarke Ingels, the structure rises 460 feet above the Hudson River to form a metal pyramid that houses more than 700 luxury apartments overlooking the river.
The sail-shaped façade, spanning 515,200 square feet of metal, glass and concrete, incorporates more than 350,000 square feet of curtain walls and partially extruded aluminum frames finished in PPG's Duranar Arcadia Silver coatings.
Brian Knapp, PPG's Director of Coil Products and Construction, noted that Duranar's siding has been specified for a number of high-profile projects in New York City recently, including 432 Park Avenue, the tallest residential tower in the world; Yards, the largest private real estate development in U.S. history, is now under construction in Manhattan.
Duranar coatings are based on a 70 percent polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin combined with PPG's patented resin and pigment technologies. Coatings add color to many of the world's most recognizable buildings, while providing exceptional resistance to chalk formation, fading, detachment, peeling, dirt collection and chemical stains.
