On December 7, the 17th ceremony of the Abrafati Prize for Science in Paintings was held, in which the authors of three studies highlighted by the high technical level and concern for sustainability were included.
First of all it was for a group of researchers linked to the Federal University of Pernambuco and the Federal Rural University of the same state, thanks to research on the addition of waste from the wine industry in the formulation of an antifouling paint for marine applications. The authors are Patricia Lopes Barros de Araujo, Maria Telma Guedes da Silva, Katia Aparecida da Silva Aquino and Elmo Silvano de Araújo.
With the work entitled "Direct synthesis of methylisobutylketone in isopropanol in heterogeneous catalysis", the student of Chemical Engineering, Carlos Henrique Furtado da Cunha, ranked in second place as author; professors José María Correa Bueno and Márcio José da Silva, as co-authors.
The third place went to another group of academic researchers, linked to Unicentro, State University of Central-West of Paraná, for a study on the transformation of aluminum and iron residues into synthetic inorganic pigments. The authors are chemistry students Dienifer Fernanda Lopes Horsth and ketlyn Wolfart Borth.
"We recorded high-level works, which shows that in Brazil there are many people who do good studies and research related to painting. The objective of the Award, to stimulate this activity, has been fully achieved, having a direct impact on the scientific and technological development of our industry and on the search for more sustainable solutions," said Dilson Ferreira, Executive Chairman of Abrafati.
