One of the three Airbus A350-1000 test aircraft has been painted in Airbus' distinctive colours with a selectively detachable PPG system that shortens the repainting cycle time using the Desothane HD 9008 base coating.
A ppG low-density fuel tank and fuselage sealant provides the three test aircraft with weight savings compared to traditional sealants and will be used in the production of A350-1000 aircraft to benefit operators.
For the selectively detachable system, a first chromium-free primer was applied to the first existing base and an F565 intermediate coating was added and then the aircraft was painted with a Desothane color base layer and a transparent layer.
The company indicated that when it is time to repaint, only the intermediate, base layer and transparent layer coating will need to be removed for new applications, leaving intact the first Desoprime and the first underlying base intact, reducing aircraft downtime by 30 to 40%.
The Desothane HD 9008 has a saturated color base layer that achieves opacity with fewer layers of direct-gloss paint finish and a high-gloss transparent coat for exceptional service life.
