Ceramic wall and floor coverings that are manufactured in China will pay a countervailing fee for being imported into Mexico, as determined by the Ministry of Economy (SE).
This, after the agency conducted an investigation and found that these imports were made under conditions of price discrimination and caused material injury to the domestic industry of the like product, as published on Monday by the agency in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
The investigation arose after in December 2014, the companies Vitromex and Lamosa asked to be investigated in this regard, regardless of whether or not these products manufactured in China were imported from that country.
The federal agency set the investigation period from October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014 and analyzed the injury caused by these imports in the period from October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2014.
Among the aspects that the Secretariat evaluated and that support its decision, it stands out that the investigated imports were made with price discrimination margins of between 2.9 and 12.42 dollars per square meter.
In addition, the domestic market for these products registered a contraction while these imports increased 11% in the period from 2011 to 2014 and 6% in the period from 2013 to 2014.
In addition, the Chinese Chamber voluntarily assumed the commitment that there would be no exports of these products to the Mexican market for a price lower than 6.25 dollars per square meter.
A commitment was also made to implement a price monitoring system prior to the export of goods.
