Mexico.
The Ministry of Economy (SE) announced the declaration of validity for five Mexican standards regarding coatings, paints and varnishes, as well as for the construction industry, which will enter into force in 60 calendar days counted from last October 14.
The Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) detailed that the NMX-U-121-SCFI-2016 seeks to determine the performance of architectural paints based on emulsions; this, by establishing instructions for preparing the surface of the test panels, diluting the sample to be evaluated and providing an appropriate technique of application with brush.
He added that NMX-U-122-SCFI-2016 establishes a general evaluation system to designate the number and size of defects, as well as the intensity of changes in appearance of coatings, paints, varnishes and products that form film; with this system, defects caused by aging and exposure to the elements would be evaluated.
Meanwhile, the NMX-U-123-SCFI-2016 seeks to determine the degree of dispersion (fineness) of the pigment and filler system during the manufacturing process or the finished product of coatings, paints, pigmented varnishes, pigment concentrates or pre-dispersed pastes.
The federal agency explained that the declaration of validity for the NMX-U-124-SCFI-2016 standard aims to determine the stability of a water-based or solvent-based liquid paint during its storage in the original container.
He added that the NMX-U-125-SCFI-2016 establishes the specifications and test methods that must be met by the coatings for roofs of buildings, to be called "Coatings with high Solar Reflectance Index".
